Redefining Tropical Luxury
Nick Walton visits two Maldivian properties that take the hassle out of choosing which slice of paradise you’ll call your own, next time you head to the Indian Ocean.
It can always be tricky knowing where you’ll stay when you’re heading to the Maldives. Unlike many destinations, you can’t just pack up and move on if you’re not happy. Yet combining the two lavish resorts of Constance Hotels Experience allows you to juggle your Maldivian experience, change scenery half way through and still enjoy the best that the islands have to offer.
The two lavish all-villa Constance Hotels Experience properties in the Maldives are unique, yet equally elegant. Both boast prime locations on pristine atolls surrounded by some of the clearest water on the globe and feature superbly-appointed villas, cutting edge restaurants and world-class spas. Yet like siblings, each luxurious hideaway boasts its own personality and a series of unique amenities that make it stand out as a luxury destination.
Constance Halaveli Resort is located on the North Ari Atoll, west of the capital Malé and an easy seaplane trip away from the international airport. Wreathed by azure seas and talcum powder sands, this pedigree resort offers 86 private and exclusive villas, each of which features views across the beach or the lagoon, as well as design inspiration from the dhoni, traditional Maldivian fishing boats still found across the archipelago’s 1,900 islands today.
Constance Halaveli Resort is home to a wide range of accommodation options, including 57 Water Villas, each of which boast romance-inducing private plunge pools and ample sun decking; 20 Beach Villas, which also offer private plunge pools and direct access to the lagoon’s warm waters; eight Double Storey Beach Villas, perfect for families travelling together: and finally an indulgent Presidential Beach Villa, catering for up to six adults at a time.
Each villa comes with air-conditioning, modern furnishings, marble bathrooms, complimentary internet access, iPod and iMac connectivity, flat screen televisions, spacious terraces and personal wine fridges.
Direct lagoon access is always popular, especially with couples.
The Maldives isn’t just about relaxing in your private seafront villa, however, and the islands boast some of the best diving experiences on the planet and the resort’s TGI Diving Centre caters to divers of all skill levels. Beginners can be certified by experienced instructors and will quickly find themselves enjoying some of the most stellar dive spots spots in the Maldives.
Wellness also plays an important role at Constance Halaveli Resort. Le Spa de Constance is a decadent space dedicated to a host of innovative yet authentic spa rituals and treatments. With six sumptuous spa suites, as well as three double treatment suites for couples, the spa remains one of the best in the Indian Ocean. All treatments are conducted using the finest natural and hand-crafted products, with oils, scrubs and wraps created exclusively for Le Spa de Constance. Be sure to try authentic Ayurveda rituals in a dedicated suite – including the Abhyanga, a 90-minute dynamic body massage employing warm, tailored herbal oils – or traditional Thai massages in the Thai treatment room, before releasing aches and pains in the steam bath and chill pool.
“Constance Halaveli Resort is an easy seaplane trip away from the international airport.”
Once you’ve built up an appetite, indulge yourself at one of Constance Halaveli Resort’s restaurants and bars. The main restaurant, Jahaz, served leisurely breakfasts and dinners and often features themed buffets, while specialty restaurant Jing sits on stilts above the gently lapping waves of the lagoon and offers healthy Asian fusion dishes. A new all-inclusive package at Constance Halaveli Resort will make enjoying authentic Maldivian cuisine and plenty of tropical cocktails all the easier.
Blend your stay at Constance Halaveli Resort with a couple of nights at its splendid sister property, Constance Moofushi Resort, located on the South Ari Atoll of the Maldives. Moofushi offers an elegant and refined resort experience that combines a barefoot Robinson Crusoe-esque ambiance with the world-class service of Constance Hotels Experience resorts.
Guests have a choice of deluxe accommodation, including Beach Villas, Water Villas scattered out across the turquoise lagoon, and decadent Senior Water Villas, which accommodate two adults and two children. All villas have outdoor soak tubs and sun decks with hammocks, perfect for lazy afternoons.
Their innovative all-inclusive package makes any holiday carefree and the package includes a wide range of beverages including an extensive wine list of international labels, fully stocked in-villa mini bars, all meals in the Mantra Restaurant, daily afternoon tea served by the main swimming pool, snorkeling equipment and excursions and a 90-minute boat excursion, an à la carte dinner per stay in Alizée, Constance Moofushi Resort’s beach grill restaurant, and much more. Alizée is a particularly enjoyable experience with a sand-floored beachfront grill that offers an innovative ‘live’ cuisine experience with plenty of local Maldivian influences, and dishes served under a canopy of stars.
Of course, diving is a big draw card for guests at the resort, and guests come from far and wide to snorkel and dive on the resort’s house reef, home to eels, snapper and lion fish, or to head further out to iconic dive sites to see whale sharks, manta rays and tuna.
