Lurisia is considered to be one of the best drinking waters in the world for its pureness, freshness and the lightness, and has recently been introduced into the Indonesian market through PT Pronto Indonesia. FRV spoke to them recently in Jakarta about this new product to our shores. FRV drinks it all in but first, here’s the background…

Lurisia Fonte S.Barbara natural mineral water comes from Mount Pigna on the Western Alps of Italy at 1.460 metres above sea level in a pure environment and far from any pollution. It is very light with a small amount of dry residue, and very little sodium – equal to 0,0005% of the recommended daily dose. The water also has a pH of 6,9, which is the perfect balance with the human body and has a water hardness reading of < 1 for rapid mineral digestion. Lurisia water is clinically tested to be one of the cleanest and healthiest waters to drink on the market.

Legend has it that at the beginning of the 1900’s, one of the miners in charge of extracting “lose” – very fine stone, which was used in local building, and from which Lurisia gets its name – accidentally struck a spring which flooded a great part of the shaft while he was in the caves of Nuvolari, where the Lurisia Spa is currently situated. Over the following days the water flowed outside creating a small lake where the miners began washing wounds which they sustained during work. It was by doing this they realised the healing powers of the natural spring water. The news spread all around the surrounding valleys and many of the local people began to visit the Nuvolari caves to try out the effectiveness of the “miraculous” water. Later, they called for Marie Curie, the famous Nobel Prize-winner for Physics & Chemistry to see whether the water was radio-active. Fortunately it wasn’t; in fact it was so pure, that, having analysed it, she claimed it to be a ‘Miracle of Purity’ on account of its astonishing absence of minerals, making it exceptionally light on the palate.

Later, in 1940, and after more clinical testing of the water, the spa at Lurisia was opened by the founders David Garbarino and Piero Sciaccaluga. Thanks to this, Lurisia became the favourite holiday place of important people in the political, artistic and social Italian world. In the following years the mineral water was bottled and began selling through the region and later, around the world.

In the past year Lurisia water has created a new face with the help of two leading professionals; Sottsass Associates, the unquestioned masters of Italian design, and Saint-Gobain Vetri, a world leader in the production of glass. “The water and design of the bottles are for people who search for emotion and exclusive pleasure from food, always reaching for the highest guarantee of quality, and we have designed a bottle to express this character with a concept as elegant as cutlery, glassware, and the table-cloth, enhancing the visual aspect on the table,” said the designer. The design is simple and transparent thanks to the use of delicate curves, colours, shades and volumes that recall and conjure in every way the presence and spirit of the water and style. We have two new styles of bottles; Stille and Bolle – still and sparkling. The water comes from the one source but Stille is natural and Bolle has added CO2.

Lurisia has recently been introduced into the Indonesian market though PT Pronto Indonesia and we spoke to Sheilla Novryanti D’Auria about this new product to our shores.

What makes Lurisia different to other mineral waters on the market?
Any bottled water containing not less than 250 parts per million total dissolved solids may be labelled as mineral water. But if the total dissolved solids (TDS) content of mineral water is below 50 mg/L in Italy it’s called oligominerale water, meaning that it’s even better than mineral water. Lurisia is one of these oligominerale waters. There aren’t many waters in the world with parameters like Lurisia because it is pure and direct from source to the bottle.

How long has it been here and where is it available in Indonesia already?
We started around September 2010 and it is found in fine-dining restaurants in Jakarta like Luna Negra, Pastis, Pesto, Sopra, Avorio and also in supermarkets like Kem Chick, Food All and Hero Premium.

Do you yourself see medicinal benefits from drinking the water?
People ask me this all the time. Water with parameters like Lurisia not only helps the digestion of food and cell regeneration of the minerals that we lose doing sports or sweating, but helps clean the arteries and kidneys which are affected by everything we eat and drink. I feel healthier drinking Lurisia water.

Lurisia water: Comparison of Lightness

*The Dry Residue, indicated in milligrams per litre, corresponds to the total quantity of salts in the water. Mineral water is defined as slightly mineralized (if the Dry Residue is under 50 mg/L), low in minerals (if the Dry Residue is between 50 and 500 mg/L), rich in mineral salts (if the Dry Residue is above 1500 mg/L).
