Park Hyatt Shanghai: A Walk in the Clouds
Back from his visit to the world’s highest hotel, Kenny Santana couldn’t stop bragging about Park Hyatt Shanghai’s above-level view, top service and high-end atmosphere. Here’s the abridged version of what he had to say.
The first thing that Kenny showed us was his pictures of Park Hyatt Shanghai. The initial photograph that left us in awe was the hotel lobby lounge called the Living Room. In it, we saw coffee tables by the window overlooking the Pudong River and the iconic Pearl TV and Jin Mao towers. Many times he witnessed numerous guests queuing for seats for the hotel’s exquisite high tea from 2-6 pm. Think salmon and cream cheese bagel, parma ham sandwich, pistachio macaroon, raspberry éclair paired with signature Longjing tea.
Kenny wasn’t only crazy about the tea-with-a-view experience; he was also impressed with the hotel’s intimate breakfast. He clicked another picture on his Mac and showed us what looked like a chic expensive pantry inside a cozy house. From what he told us, The Pantry (yes, that’s the name) does indeed give the feeling that you’re having breakfast in your mate’s kitchen-cum-dining room. The medium-sized (but fulfilling nonetheless) buffet served hot on island tables looked refreshingly casual and far from the business-like ones that many big chain hotels tend to have. He also loved the cocoon-like seating design, giving ample privacy to guests.

And we haven’t even got to the bedroom yet. In one of the pictures, we were struck by what might came off as an ordinary behind-the-window image. However there was nothing ordinary about it as there were clouds hovering literally outside the window. Then we realized that to stay in a hotel located on the 79-93 floors of the World Financial Center, it is clear that you’re literally above the clouds.
Beside the jaw-dropping river view from the window (ask for the Bund side when checking in), guests will also appreciate the spacious room. Kenny admired the Tony Chi-designed sophisticated interior with a cool cream-meets-black hue. He also added that he enjoyed the amenities like the Nespresso machine, automatic blinds, the daybed with reading lights, Japanese toilet technology, Aesop toiletries, with nice details like coffee table books about Shanghai and ‘hidden’ TV in the bathroom mirror.
Although he didn’t have a picture taken inside the property’s Water’s Edge spa, we were sold on Kenny’s description on how it’s such a tranquil haven in the midst of a concrete jungle. A peek at the spa photos in the hotel’s official website had little trouble convincing us. Kenny suggested a three-hour The Water’s Edge treatment that includes Revive Pink Grapefruit Polish, Water’s Edge signature massage, and personalized facial. The whole treatment was meant to release muscle tension and rejuvenate the body, while at the same time creating soft, gleaming skin. There’s also an indoor pool nearby if you need some cardio exercise.
Park Hyatt Shanghai is also a proud host of the 100 Century Avenue restaurant, renowned for its multiple show kitchens serving steaks, Chinese specialties, not to mention Japanese sushi and sashimi. While tasting the culinary delights with a glass (or two) of over 500 wine choices, guests will easily be impressed by the city’s skylines over the floor-to-ceiling window.
In the end of our long chat with Kenny about the hotel’s exquisite restaurants, spectacular views, wonderfully designed rooms and service to match, we quickly planned the next holiday to have our own Park Hyatt Shanghai experience. One ticket to the top, please.
